في الثالث من أيار/مايو، يُحيي العالم اليوم العالمي لحرية الصحافة، مناسبة تؤكد على أن الكلمة الحرة ليست مجرد أداة إعلامية، بل هي حق إنساني أصيل، ووسيلة جوهرية لتعزيز العدالة ومكافحة الفساد وإعلاء صوت الحقيقة. إن منظمة الدرع الدولية تؤكد أن حرية الصحافة تشكل ركيزة من ركائز الديمقراطية، وجدارًا منيعًا في وجه الانتهاكات وطمس الحقائق.
الصحافة الحرة ضرورة لبناء المجتمعات السليمة:
في ظل التحديات التي يواجهها العالم اليوم، تصبح الصحافة الحرة ضرورة لا غنى عنها، وليست ترفًا أو رفاهية. الإعلام المستقل يضمن الشفافية، ويعزز المحاسبة، ويمكّن المواطن من الوصول إلى المعلومة الدقيقة. إن تقييد الصحافة يؤدي إلى تعطيل مسار التنمية، ويكرّس الأنظمة الاستبدادية، ويهدد كرامة الإنسان وحقه في المعرفة.
فلسطين نموذج للثمن المدفوع في سبيل الحقيقة:
تتابع منظمة الدرع الدولية بقلق بالغ ما يتعرض له الصحفيون الفلسطينيون، خصوصًا في قطاع غزة، من انتهاكات جسيمة. حيث قُتل العشرات منهم خلال العدوان الأخير، وتعرضت المؤسسات الإعلامية للتدمير الممنهج. إن استهداف الإعلاميين يشكل جريمة حرب وفق القانون الدولي الإنساني، ويستدعي تحقيقات دولية مستقلة. ورغم كل ذلك، لم يتوقف الصحفي الفلسطيني عن أداء رسالته، ليبقى شهيدًا وشاهدًا على الحقيقة.
قمع الصحافة ظاهرة عابرة للحدود:
لم تعد الانتهاكات تقتصر على مناطق النزاع، بل امتدت إلى دول تسعى للسيطرة على الفضاء الإعلامي، من خلال اعتقال الصحفيين، وتضييق الحريات، وإغلاق المنابر المستقلة. الأخطر من ذلك هو توظيف الإعلام لخدمة أجندات سياسية تضرب مصداقية الصحافة وتزرع الانقسام. وقد بات الصحفي في بعض الدول مضطرًا للاختيار بين قول الحقيقة أو النجاة بنفسه.
موقف منظمة الدرع الدولية:
تدعو منظمة الدرع الدولية المجتمع الدولي، ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان، إلى اتخاذ مواقف أكثر جدية لحماية الصحفيين ومساءلة من يعتدي عليهم. كما نؤكد على ضرورة سن قوانين واضحة تحمي حرية التعبير وتمنع الإفلات من العقاب. فالحفاظ على الصحافة الحرة هو مسؤولية عالمية، وهو حجر أساس في الدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان.
إن حرية الصحافة ليست مناسبة نحتفل بها سنويًا، بل هي التزام دائم يتطلب العمل والجهد والدفاع المستمر. وفي هذا السياق، تؤكد منظمة الدرع الدولية التزامها الكامل بالدفاع عن حرية الكلمة، وعن كل صحفي شريف يعمل في الميدان، حاملًا الحقيقة في وجه التزييف، ومستعدًا للتضحية في سبيل الإنسان وكرامته.

On May 3rd, the world commemorates World Press Freedom Day — an occasion that reminds us that free speech is not merely a media tool, but a fundamental human right and a vital means of promoting justice, fighting corruption, and amplifying the voice of truth. The SHIELD Organization affirms that press freedom is a cornerstone of democracy and a strong barrier against violations and the distortion of facts.
Free Journalism: A Necessity for Healthy Societies
In light of the challenges the world faces today, free journalism is more essential than ever — it is not a luxury. Independent media ensures transparency, strengthens accountability, and empowers citizens with access to accurate information. Restricting journalism undermines development, entrenches authoritarian regimes, and threatens human dignity and the right to know.
Palestine: A Case Study of the Cost of Truth
The SHIELD Organization is deeply concerned by the severe violations faced by Palestinian journalists, particularly in Gaza, where dozens have been killed during recent aggressions and media institutions have been systematically targeted. Attacking journalists constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law and requires independent international investigations. Despite all challenges, Palestinian journalists continue to fulfill their mission, standing as both witnesses and martyrs for the truth.
Cross-Border Repression of the Press
Press violations are no longer limited to conflict zones; they now extend to countries that seek to dominate the media landscape through the arrest of journalists, suppression of freedoms, and closure of independent outlets. More alarmingly, media is often exploited to serve political agendas, undermining press credibility and deepening divisions. In some nations, journalists are forced to choose between telling the truth or safeguarding their own lives.
SHIELD Organization’s Stance:
The SHIELD Organization calls on the international community and human rights institutions to take stronger, more decisive actions to protect journalists and hold perpetrators accountable. We emphasize the need for clear legislation that safeguards freedom of expression and prevents impunity. Defending a free press is a global responsibility and a foundational element of human rights advocacy.
